If Mercury and Venus are any indication, your head and heart will encounter some of the same issues on separate paths tomorrow. Mercury appears to be slowing down in Libra on its way to pass between Earth and the Sun. Venus appears to be speeding up in Virgo on its way to the Sun’s far side.
Mercury, among other things, correlates with your head — specifically how you think. Venus, among other things, corresponds to your heart — specifically how you feel.
Mercury appears to be decelerating on approach to station retrograde for the third time this year on Oct. 4, at 2+ Scorpio. Venus appears to be accelerating at it approaches the halfway point between its much less frequent retrograde periods.
Mercury entered the echo (or “shadow”) phase of its next retrograde two days ago as it moved past 16+ Libra, where it will resume direct motion again on Oct. 25. Venus is now entering the dawn’s glare to temporarily disappear from view before resuming visibility in the western sky after sundown later this year.
One would be hard-pressed to find two planets on more different paths than Mercury and Venus are now. The same may very well be true of what you are thinking and how you are feeling.
Yet, in both astrology and in your life, separate paths sometimes lead to something of the same circumstances — at least for a short while. In astrology’s case, at least, such will be the state of affairs for Mercury and Venus tomorrow.
Tomorrow, Mercury and Venus will symbolically encounter polarity through separate but similar aspects taking place at about the same time.
For astrologers, polarity is often encountered through oppositions — two objects or hypothetical points simultaneously occupying the same degree of opposite signs. Nevertheless, some calculated points and actual objects symbolize polarity in and of themselves.
So happens, both Mercury and Venus will participate in separate but very nearly simultaneous aspects tomorrow with precisely those points and objects most often identified with polarity.
Mercury will conjoin with the lunar north node in Libra tomorrow. The North Node is one of two hypothetical points where the paths of the Sun and Moon appear to cross (and where eclipses take place).
Besides marking where eclipses take place, the two lunar nodes are characterized by their perpetual opposition. For other points and objects, oppositions come and go in predictable periodicity, but the nodes remain in polarity 24 hours a day, forever.
That’s how Mercury in conjunction with one lunar node necessarily means a concurrent opposition to the other, in this case the lunar south node in Aries. Such a circumstance in the sky tomorrow may find you being of two minds here below.
Specifically, your thoughts about choices already made may be very different from what you are thinking about regarding choices you are facing. At the very least be aware of the potential for such a polarized mental condition.
If possible, build on the awareness of any mental conundrum you are dealing with tomorrow, and consider how you might achieve being of one mind after Mercury retrogrades back to conjoin the lunar North Node for a second time on Oct. 20 (or 21, depending on your time zone), and for yet a third time (in direct motion again) on Oct. 29.
Unlike Mercury, Venus is on a different path and not anywhere near resuming the retrograde motion it experienced from Dec. 21 of last year to Jan. 31 of this year.
Hence, tomorrow’s opposition from Venus in mutable Virgo to Chiron in mutable Pisces will not be revisited until late October next year. That’s a potential dilemma when you consider how Venus in polarity with Chiron tomorrow may come with some rather sensitive and pressing choices between being true to your feelings and pressure to conform with conventions you have no feeling for.
Fortunately, astrology is indicating an alternative (and immediate) resolution to any disparities of the heart you my feel tomorrow. For just as Venus and Chiron are opposing, both will be in square aspect to the Great Attractor in mutable Sagittarius, a combination creating a T-shaped configuration (or mutable T-square) on the zodiac.
The Great Attractor is an unimaginably mysterious and far away object in deepest space with gravity so powerful as to actively attract our galaxy (and millions of other galaxies) in its direction.
Like the lunar nodes, the Great Attractor has its own, independent association with polarity. As Eric put it, during a previous square from Venus (at that time in Pisces) to the Great Attractor, the aspect “brings tension to the issues of attraction and repulsion in your life.”
Adding Chiron to oppose Venus and simultaneously square the Great Attractor clearly implies that you should pay attention to any issues of attraction and/or repulsion you feel tomorrow.
Finally, a highly ephemeral and mutable T-square connection between Venus, Chiron and the Great Attractor just as clearly indicates that you should act on how you feel, rather than how others are trying to make you feel, to resolve your inner tensions with dispatch — a decidedly different path from what Mercury’s intellectual encounter with the nodes will dictate.
Separate paths — one of the mind, one of the heart — encountering similar issues is what tomorrow’s astrology may bring for you. And thanks to astrology, you now know what options each path will likely offer. What remains is for you to know the difference.

As regards to your question: i’m not an expert on the astronomy behind vagaries of apparent motion, except to know that it does happen for all objects in the solar system because Earth (from which apparent motion is perceived) is also moving. Hence, the apparent motion of transiting Juno and Vesta (and the interesting correlation with how their perceived slowing and/or accelerations have combined to result in an exquisitely timed aspect with Eris), has to do with our frame of reference relative to the objects themselves. In other words, Earth is a participant in this relativistic dance you have described. That means we who live on Earth are participating. Your part (for which we thank you) is to bring it to our attention so that we may join you in conscious deliberations. That makes you as important as any of the objects you have described – indeed, it would be fair to say you are as much a Goddess as Juno, Vesta, or Eris. I apologize for not catching that I said 16 year old instead of 17 year old re: your step son but I think I can see an explanation for part of his behavior. Based on your info, he was born with a quincunx (an aspect that agitates to bring about needed adjustment) between Jupiter in Aquarius and Mars retrograde in Virgo. The Aquarius Jupiter would be fairly common among those his same age, but the Mars retro in the same degree of Virgo as the Aquarian Jupiter suggest he might have to work to “fit in”. Now, along comes Uranus in Aries – soon to complete a yod formation with his quincunxed natal Mars-Jupiter (and came within a degree when he stationed retrograde in July) causing his Virgo Mars to dance to a tune nobody could hear but him. Look for transiting Uranus to reassert himself when he perfects the sextile to the stepson’s Jupiter in April 2015.
Transiting Saturn in Scorpio (the “law”?) on the other hand squared the stepson’s Jupiter this past August and sextiled his natal Mars in Virgo, giving natal Mars the go-ahead. Natal Mars and transiting Saturn formed a near-perfect yod with transiting Uranus, by then retrograde, a setup which won’t repeat as Saturn moves further into Scorpio and on into Sagittarius by the end of the year.
So, this summer your stepson had two quincunxes going on thanks to the transiting Saturn and transiting Uranus. This could indeed do some damage to even mature individuals, but a young person having to prove himself to his friends would be under a lot of conflict. A person with an Aries Sun conjunct a Venus in the last degree of Aries or the 1st degree of Taurus (and square Neptune) + a Leo Moon does suggest an individual focused on himself.
I don’t remember where I wrote about Eris putting the icing on the cake (don’t remember the context) so possibly it was about the U.S. chart or maybe involved some asteroids and/or centaurs. ( I know that transiting Eris will quincunx the U.S. Sibly Neptune in Virgo while she sextiles transiting Damocles, and it won’t be the first time!)

Thanks ever so much, you really did hit the nail for me. Eris as you said is a she but……..he is so-o-o-o close. The ex and the two others are Venus`s, Juno describes the oldest daughter, and Vesta certainly the oldest brother. The 16 is the spoiled brat of the family who has and still gets everything and leaves the other two out completely. “Whatever he wants, with the child payments, plus, plus, plus”. One of those if you don`t pay you can`t see your son. I know my husband is on his last wits over this, as he tried to teach values, but I guess they have slipped through the wayside. He already paid some of the inheritance once before to get them to stop the destruction but I guess from what you say, he will do it again. I can certainly see the Juno and Vesta characters as yes demanding to fly right or else, but it has already been said before, and still nothing. The ex lost her father with house and money two years ago and lost her mother with lots more money and a house just last year. I guess once you get lots of money you now expect to get more and more, I mean in her mind the it`s only a small pitence that she should have more of my husbands money too. Unbelievable greed. Hopefully, my husband, will finally stop giving in so quickly and walk away completely. But with children sometimes its too hard, to do just that.

Mercury’ slow down is trine natal Venus and I am thankful for that.. Son just had his first shave on Monday. (Got a shot of this one too) He’s growing up! Another big marker towards that bittersweet letting go.. It’s a somewhat tearful passage for a Mom, but I am learning to respect and trust in this.
What’s helpful, Saturn and Vesta just launched off each other conjunct natal Pallas and Juno at 19+ Scorp in exact opposition to natal Venus, and believe this is in a similar connection to an even bigger Trine, T square aspect with Chiron in Pisces to Juno in Cancer. So the release is healing and opening up to fill this temporary feeling of void in heart, to offer potential of healthy direction elsewhere..To the truth and other missions of soul. A leading away from past patterns of control towards new sacred ground of support offering opportunity to grow. Acceptance and honoring of inner and outer relations, balancing partnerships.
Personally, icing on the cake.. Jupiter! Is just conjunct natal Mercury for an aspect visit of 1.5 years. I am so thankful for this new energy of expansion and optimistic vision coming in. Yet I will not let the plans get ahead of me. Just as with transit Mercury retrograde in Libra (trine natal venus through Oct), as you explain Len, it will be a process. A path that will keep the mind and heart in aware. Just as was recently processed through with Mars, it will be another work in balance. On we go..
Marilyn, gee, we are all feeling our way through the dark dearheart, but – if you don’t mind being a Test Case – I will take a stab at your story using the info I am working with (without the benefit of your family’s charts) but first we must know the characters of this play.
Eris is a She, not a He, but I believe she’s a would-be He, because she symbolizes a warrior kind of energy. Unlike Pallas (also a She) who is a great war strategist and negotiator, Eris likes to see the spilt blood of combat and will go so far as to instigate the problems that will bring on a battle.
Vesta is also a She and symbolizes the fire that keeps a family together (as in the warmth of a hearth fire) and does the same for a community (when communities share a common cause). She also symbolizes investments in the financial world, so I would think of her as your husband’s inheritance and your shared “farm” in this case.
Juno, also a She (and sister to Vesta), is first and foremost a symbol of the perfect wife. Her main positive characteristic is her desire to speak up for the disenfranchised (those who have no “voice” such as hungry children for example) and her main negative characteristic is her ill temper when she’s not treated as equal to her male counterpart (but that’s another story). That’s important to knowing Juno. . . she wants her “fair share” which is half (or equal amount) of everything.
We already know that Mercury symbolizes thinking and communicating, that the Sun symbolizes growing consciousness, that Venus symbolizes values and “love and-or money” top the list, and that Mars symbolizes action, often aggressive action, and negatively, violence when provoked. Mars doesn’t take the time to think first and shoot later.
Both Jupiter and Uranus come equipped with thunderbolts that they throw to get our attention. Sometimes literally they symbolize violent weather or earth eruptions and because they travel in fire signs these days their messages come with flames. Mars rules the sign Uranus travels (Aries) and the Sun rules the sign Jupiter travels (Leo). These 3 gods are masculine of course, so represent the males species more often than not. On the other hand, the goddesses Vesta, Juno, Venus (and the jury is still out on Eris’ femininity quotient) usually symbolize the female species and feminine characteristics, however, all these symbols (gods and goddesses) have multiple meanings, including Mercury who can go either way and usually does!
I’m going with the 16 year old as playing the role of Eris. I think Vesta could be the inheritance (at least) and maybe more. I believe the ex-wife and others in her family (if there are some) are playing the role of Juno in part and also you possibly could too in this case.
Today Mercury (conjunct the north node, symbol of a way forward) squares Juno (you communicate your story to PW) and semi-sextiles Vesta (about your husband’s inheritance and the family farm). On Friday, September 19th Mercury will oppose Eris (information or knowledge pitted confrontationally against errant 16 year old who is causing strife that has resulted in warring factions) for the first time (Mercury still in direct motion).
On September 21 things come to a head (Eris exact square to Juno and Eris exact quincunx to Vesta). Perhaps a portion of the inheritance will come with the ultimatum (quincunx) to make changes in son’s pattern of behavior, etc., even a signed (legal) document to that effect (Vesta held important signed oaths and documents, and always got the best parts of sacrifices!) and as well, a guaranteed refusal to play his game anymore (square) from 2nd wife (Juno).
On September 23rd, the money gets exchanged (Venus will square Eris) between husband and the son’s legal guardian parent (ex wife I presume) and on September 25th Venus sextiles both Vesta and Juno assuring them (keepers of the farm and both wife and ex-wife) of the desired results coming from the agreement. Great joy (Jupiter in Leo) and unexpected (Uranus) personal benefits (in Aries) come with this breakthrough in understanding (Uranus – breakthrough, trine Jupiter – understanding).
This, in large part, is the result of the feminine energies in the above aspects, but next month in October, the masculine energies will also engage Eris. That will be experienced on October 15th via the Sun sextile Mars early and later the same day, the Sun will oppose Eris and the next morning Mars will trine Eris. Finally Mercury retrograde (re-think) will oppose Eris for the 2nd time on the morning of October 17 and follow up with a conjunction to Venus, who will then also oppose Eris. Let us know how that works out! These are my interpretations based on my limited information (and knowledge) and in no way reflect the views of PlanetWaves management. My life is hovering at a “Fork in the Road” (at present). I find myself casting a wide net in two different directions–if the first comes to fruition–I will be on a grand adventure–towards a new life (on the road). However–if the second bears fruit–then I will remain where I am (for the next year–at least) while being in a much better financial position–to work towards making improvements–in order to manifest the new life–to which I am being called.
So…like the Nature of the Universe and the Planetary Movements…round and round and round She goes–where She stops…no one knows. We shall see–what we shall see.

Wonderful as always, Len. I’m viewing everything right now in the light of the Scottish Independence referendum taking place tomorrow. Conflict between head and heart for many, indeed!
“Be” Len or anyone else, can you possibly research something for me. “Be” you state
shenanigans are being played out. Definitely yes, but I need to know exactly what. Far too much damage has been conducted within my should say my husband`s previous family including the ex. bringing this all on my lap. Damages done by Eris himself have cost me a lot of money to repair. My husband fell into an inherritance from his deceased mother and now they all want it, and have forced him to sign a portion over to them with more wanting and needing. He will be retiring soon, and if they don`t stop this nonsence, he will be selling the “farm” to them. Eris, Ares, Uranus, whatever you want to call him is my stepson 17 years old not 18, to face legal charges of major destrution to personel property. But because of his age it will be thrown out and we are left to pay, not him, but all enticed by the family to do it and use him as the escape goat because even the law can`t touch him. You also stated that on February 18th, 2015, Eris “WILL PUT THE ICING ON THE CAKE”. My step son`s date of birth is April 16th, 1997 born in Munich Germany, time I don`t know. But because of your knowledge of astrology “Be” you have helped me be one step ahead of the four of them before way too much damage takes place. I need to know the shenanigans exactly, and I need to know Feb.18th exactly, but I need it in “laymans” terms, I follow a lot of astrology but I am just a beginneer and don`t know the numbers and what they represent. aword, thanks for adding more evidence to the unique quality of how the asteroid goddesses convey their influence into the consciousness of us mortals. Will have to further research your tidbit for myself! I simply can’t walk away from the fact (or appearance) that one of those asteroids (Juno or Vesta) or both of them changed their speed just as they each made an uncomfortable aspect to Eris. Then they backed off before completing a perfect trine (the kind that computers catch. .down to the second). Was it so as to not be noticed? These ARE feminine energies after all. It is not humanly possible (w/o computers) to keep track of all their interactions, but sometimes they leave breadcrumbs for those of us hungry enough to follow. This was one of them. It’s not like either Juno or Vesta was preparing to station retrograde after all. Either Vesta had slowed down so a to let Juno catch up, or Juno hit the accelerator all by herself. For some reason only the goddesses know, they were to meet up with Eris (by aspect) at the same time. It’s a big part of a bigger plan, but now I’m off to watch the 3rd part of The Roosevelts.

Be, I don’t have the software to detail this out, nor the large quantity of time it would take to do my usual hit-or-miss-until-I-figure-it-out with the astro.com site. However, it appears that Vesta and Juno trade places about two years from now (Juno will be in Scorpio conjuncting DML and Vesta will be in Cancer. Eris and Uranus conjoin and both will retrograde still in Aries.)
Perhaps there is a connection re: a pattern still emerging amongst the goddesses wherein that trine will still occur but in flopped signs?

Manifesting for me as a conundrum between heart (desire) and mind (security), which is prompting me, in the face of uncertainty, to turn to old tapes/constructs that were greatly limiting rather than following the path of something new that is not well supported by prior successes. I think I know what to do now.

Was just pondering how the GA will effect Mars as he conjoins it (while he simultaneously trines Uranus and squares Chiron) next month. Perhaps this Venus-Chiron-GA crisis is setting up the circumstances for the October Mars-GA effect. Greatly appreciate your thoughts and wisdom Len.
I wanted to ask you about another curiosity; since the end of August transiting Juno in Cancer and Vesta in Scorpio have been gradually getting nearer and nearer to an exact trine. At that time they were just a degree or so from being exact. On September 21, they will be in the same minute of the same degree of their respective signs – only 3 hours apart – as Vesta in Scorpio makes a quincunx to Eris (22 Aries 51 retrograde) and Juno in Cancer squares Eris. After that, transiting Vesta gradually starts to move away from the would-be exact trine, OR Juno starts to drag her feet. Whichever it is, I know astronomers would have a logical explanation for this phenomenon, but I can’t help but wonder about the symbolism. Here they are almost perfecting this building trine, only to have the momentum change after they both aspect Eris. Doesn’t that sound a little suspicious?
My first reaction is to think that both Juno and Vesta are “hitting” Eris at the same time for some unknown (to me at this time) purpose that has to do with emotions (both Juno and Vesta in water signs). Next month on October 15th, the Sun and Mars will sextile each other, and later that night the Sun will oppose Eris. The next morning on the 16th Mars will trine Eris and the following morning Mercury retrograde will oppose Eris. All that is in October.
Before that happens though, while Mercury is still direct, tomorrow he will square Juno and semisextile Vesta after he conjoins the north node, and while Juno and Vesta are still tightening their would-be trine. On Friday (Sept. 19th), Mercury will oppose Eris for the first time in this swing through Libra. Then comes the Eris aspects to Vesta and Juno on the 21st and their subsequent separation from that almost perfect trine. It will be followed on the 23rd of September by Venus making a quincunx to Eris, and then on the 25th Venus sextiles both Vesta and Juno. That will happen in the background of the big macho Jupiter trine Uranus on September 25th.
I probably wouldn’t give these multiple aspects to Eris a thought if it weren’t for the weird little trine that never made it (puff, puff, I think I can, I think I can). Hopefully I will get some time tonight or tomorrow to study the aspect timing and order of these 4; Mercury-Venus-Juno-Vesta, and get an idea of what shenanigans they might be up to. Perhaps the Head path and the Heart path will provide some clues. Let me know if you have any thoughts or feelings about them too.

Per your last note (last blog) about taking it an aspect at a time. yes! wonderful reminder to be more mindful and less full-of-mind. Today’s lesson in both Merc and Venus, while 2 aspects occurring concurrently but working together to give opportunity for growth, adds to my mindfulness and consciousness about staying in my heart.
On Oct 4th, Merc will turn retro upon my own True Node, and the entire retrograde process will see him cross my IC, holding conjunctions with both the transiting and natal NNs. Venus herself will be in Libra by the time Merc stations retro, although she will not exactly oppose my natal Moon/Eris (8 AR) until Oct. 7th when Merc will be off my natal TN by one degree (2 SC) and headed back to the t.NN and beyond.
And so it is! – that the planets are personal as they are political, as always.
This Piscean heart is not often prudent by the standards of others; fear of following it runs deep. Aspects in the sky of late might indicate a change of weather.
