Reformation — Saturn Station Direct

Saturn resumes direct motion through fixed Scorpio at 1:11 am EDT Monday, ending a retrograde period that got underway on February 18, and symbolically initiating creative reformation. Symbolically, because only you can make it real. Initiating, because two hours after Saturn’s station direct, the cardinal Cancer New Moon begins a new lunar cycle in the same sign the Sun entered last month to start a new season.

Astrology by Len Wallick

Creative, because Saturn will be precisely trine to Neptune’s mutable Pisces paradigm of possibility. Reformation, because that’s what Saturn does.

If you see ‘road apples’ on the road, you know a horse has been there. If you sense form, structure or definition in your life, you know Saturn has been there.

By this time, nearly every being on Earth can sense that the tangible and intangible structures defining life as we know it are on the verge of taking on new forms. Faced with that, your choices come down to three.

You can ignore or deny what is happening, and wake up one fine day among the road apples. You can resist the Universe itself and find yourself among those who have bet on the wrong horse. Or you can collaborate with the Cosmos in co-creating reform for yourself and the collective.

The question is how to ride with the astrology. The answer is a little horse sense. The luminaries (Sun and Moon) will conjoin as they do every month to provide the timing.

Ever since human beings started paying attention, the two greater lights have been the cues that correlate where we are at to where we should be. A New Moon has always signified a time to start. In this case, go with the luminaries and start feeling around, inside and out, for what begins to change anew on Monday.

Where you sense a change of definition and direction, there Saturn will be. Another way to sense the Ringed One is how working with it is not difficult, but working against it is. Once you have located those energy trends, you will be two thirds of the way home. It’s the latter third, however that will require you to apply some creativity, beginning now, to rein things in.

That’s because of Neptune, and its watery ways. Also the grand water trine connecting cardinal Cancer, fixed Scorpio and mutable Pisces, which will probably acquire a defining, and possibly intimidating, momentum when Saturn does.

It takes a sensible horse and rider working together to negotiate the currents when feet can’t feel the bottom anymore. The circumstances require a willingness to trust in collaboration. It is also necessary to be guided, even if temporarily, by imagination alone. All of that can be pretty scary, but the moment you yield to fear, you cease to be present with the water and are instead swept away.

Like fire, elemental and otherwise, water is not the best master. That means mastering how water manifests in you. Considering that Monday’s astrology represents a beginning, you can probably stay in the saddle for the time being without having to master everything at once.

You can start by realizing that keeping your eyes on the prize is as just as much a manifestation of elemental water as utterly losing your head can be. That means envisioning new forms for yourself and for the future beyond yourself in the days that remain between now and Monday. Don’t worry about making anything happen right now — that will come later.

The objective is to re-define your relationship to elemental water. To replace, even if temporarily, the familiar motivation of emotions with a new source of inspiration — imagination. Specifically, to be motivated by the visions you create at the displacement of emotions, even if only for a few days.

First, imagine the person you would like to be, and allow yourself simply to believe you can fill the vessel of your imagination and take its shape. From there, it’s only a matter of imagining how to reform the world without being its master, only its servant in collaboration. If you can do that going into and over the weekend, you will not only be riding with the astrology, you will be riding on top when Saturn becomes the definition of progress once again.

  1. Here is what a 12 year old Egyptian boy has to say:

Note the clarity of his words and vision.

Let’s stop mucking around in America. We are only hurting ourselves.

Len. I don’t know if you readers realize that you spend countless hours on each of your articles to achieve the balance and vibration you so generously provide twice a week here on Planet Waves. Truly a labor of love.

    Thank you so very much.

  2. As always Len, a beautiful and wise reflection on what the star map is showing us in terms of opportunities and signals. Thank you so much for laying this out so clearly and elegantly. I very much look forward to the new energies that these configurations portend.

I listened to a very inspiring podcast today and wanted to share it with the PW community because this is the kind of re-thinking of old, dysfunctional models that we need now. It was NPR’s TED Talks program and the entire hour was full of hopeful & inspirational stories… but the one I really liked was by Dan Pallotta who challenges us to re-examine some fundamental (limiting) thought-forms around charities and giving.
You can listen to and read more about the segment here:
    http://www.npr.org/2013/07/05/181693499/do-we-have-the-wrong-idea-about-charity

What I really appreciated is how he dismantles our very core assumptions and beliefs around how we all (mostly) assume charities and non-profits should work. He points out that part of why it is so hard for non-profits & charities (and artists I would add) is that we have two different sets of rules which govern enterprise… one set of rules for the for-profit organizations and another for the not-for-profit, and it is the very rules (Saturn) that we have for non-profits that keeps them struggling while clever and inventive for-profit organizations are given a different set of rules that helps/allows them to flourish. He shows how if we can apply for-profit rules to charities they could be just as successful and do MORE good in the world than we ever imagined.

This is the kind of thinking that we so need now. Challenging root assumptions and “rules” which we’ve all tacitly agreed are “just the way things are” is exactly where we need to shine a new light of inquiry, bring curiosity and creativity in and shake things up. After listening to this program I started to do my own depth explorations and think about what basic (and out-dated) assumptions do I operate under that are actually holding me back, keeping me stuck? I’m so grateful to have articles like yours to read and programs like this one to listen to to help take advantage of celestial portals when they crack open and new Light can spill into previously shrouded areas of unconscious habits.

Thank you so very much for all that you give to this community and to the greater collective!

  3. Strawberrylaughter- no apologies are needed. Chief Niwot was the leader of the last group of indigenous people who lived where I live now, he was a man who tried to bring peace among people with differing ways, which was not to be at that time. The Land carries the memory of those who walked here before, as does the Land where you were raised near the Greasy Grass, I only hope to follow in the footsteps of one who sought peace.

Your work is the work we each do in our own way, healing the distortions we carry from family, religion, culture, and karma. Any place where we can share our stories, our struggles and our triumphs extends the healing to others, and deepens it within ourselves. We are fortunate to have connected in this way.

    Peace to you, my friend.

  4. Chief Niwots Son, first let me apologize for having abbreviated your name here all this time. I’m ashamed to say I knew nothing of Sage Creek until I googled Chief Niwot the other day. Please excuse my ignorance; I meant no disrespect. And if there is any way to honor and heal that unimaginable legacy which you seem to have taken on–biologically, spiritually or otherwise–it would be through the compassionate grace you embody. Yours is an example I strive to follow.

I also wanted to thank you for your words last week–about having internalized a distorted masculine energy. I spent a lot of time with that idea, owning its truth in me and facing its implications. As I went into the energetics of it, I could feel it inflaming the entire right side of my torso! That may explain some liver issues 😉 I also had to admit that I’d internalized a distorted version of the feminine at the same time, and that one is taking me longer to fully own. Facing and owning up to the places where we’re hurting ourselves is one of the more challenging parts of this growing business. But I know healing is possible. And I’m grateful for your encouragement and your witness.

    Be well, my friend.

  5. Ah yes- work with it and not against it. Saturn’s station is opposed my natal Mars. Monkey mind and his storm of thoughts sometimes come up and say…oh not these cover songs again! I want something NEW! Hold on, monkey. I lost the skill of leading a song with voice and a stringed instrument around the turn of the century and it only started coming back this last spring. You don’t get that kind of skill back in a day.

My teenage ghost dream of an undeveloped first house Uranus in Libra rants about sacrificing everything anyone has ever done before to be original, but wait, that’s the monkey again. Libra requires discipline or the scales fall over and get bent out of shape, no longer able to measure anything with accuracy.

So all I have is a collection of covers mostly by one artist and a few from one band- Bowie and the Beatles- and 3 originals: these songs honor Saturn by giving me a structure to ground songcraft skills, pre existing patterns that allow me to practice so that my hands and voice are free enough together to manifest the music that needs to happen. If I just noodle with my own independence I never get past the habits of my internal fish bowl.

  6. Strawberrylaughter- “It’s a lot to grow into, but I’m okay with that.”

Water also represents the amniotic fluid of the womb, literally and metaphorically. This watery time will support your growth, in the same way water supported you in your original journey into being (in this life). Thank you for sharing so deeply of yourself, your healing, and your journey to becoming who you truly are. I am continually inspired by you.

  7. “imagine the person you would like to be, and allow yourself simply to believe you can fill the vessel of your imagination and take its shape. From there, it’s only a matter of imagining how to reform the world without being its master, only its servant in collaboration.”

    Len,

This is beautiful. Before I even read this, a vision for my life & what I’m doing here this time began to emerge in a way that I was able to receive with a “yes, I know that. That’s me.” I’ve been huddling around it, protecting it as if it were some fledgling animal, though I can feel it’s stronger than anything I’ve ever known. It’s a lot to grow into, but I’m okay with that.

With both Sun and Moon in water signs, it can be a challenge to remember that water represents imagination as well as emotion and intuition. How lovely to step away from the emotion and just hold this vision as it takes up residence in me. And how perfectly timely your message is, as always.

I am ever, ever grateful to you.

  8. Using Campion’s The Book of World Horoscopes chart for Egypt (6/18/53) has Uranus at 17 Cancer 25 so the New Moon on Monday at 16 Cancer 17 will be conjunct it. The ruler of Egypt’s chart, Mars at 3+ Cancer is conjunct the U.S. Sibly Venus at 3+ Cancer. The Moon in the chart for Egypt at 21+ Virgo is conjunct the U.S. Neptune at 22+ Virgo and the President’s Mars at 22+ Virgo. Egypt’s Moon is also square the U.S. Mars at 21+ Gemini, just as is the U.S. Neptune and Obama’s Mars. My my. We should all expect the unexpected from Egypt’s military takeover government, as well as continued spiritual support for the People (Moon) from the U.S Neptune).

  9. I was reflecting upon the horse/rider imagery as I walked this afternoon, & looking back upon years when I had a horse & rode a lot, I was reminded that in order to get anywhere, I had learned that one must work WITH the horse, & trust its intelligence. This requires calmness, attention & sensitivity. Perhaps that’s currently applicable to us collectively, as well as on a personal level?
On Sirius – long one of my favourite stars, & Orion is a constellation I first gazed at as a child. So it seems Sirius sits on the ascendant of my chart. I think I need to do some research.

  10. Well Len, that’s a horse of a different color. Saturn kicking into forward gear to get some flow in the watery realms, while Mercury does the backstroke. I appreciate how this times into a new project that I am initiating in my work life next week, time to get Sirius and orient by the stars.

fwiw- the helical rising of Sirius on the Eastern horizon prior to the Sun in Old Egypt signaled the coming of the Nile flood, so important to the agricultural fortunes of the land. The “dog days” of Summer coincide with the appearance of Sirius, usually July 23rd by our reckoning, Sirius being the Dog Star, the faithful companion to Osiris/Orion striding through the heavens. And so on.

Thanks you Len for the timely reminder.

  11. Patty: Thank you for the numerical correspondence, which is worthy of contemplation – even possibly liberating. You sem to have your finger on the pulse of the collective as regards the imperative to move on.

starrynight3: All the best of support and encouragement on your new start.

be: Thank you for knowing your numbers as well. Special thanks for your mention of Sirius, a powerful stellar influence through history (especially for the ancient Egyptians) and an important part of the New Moon aspects. Without you, what would we do?

Lizzy: You are very welcome. All the best of support and encouragement to you also as you navigate a challenging stretch of elemental water.

Stormlaughter: Thank you for sharing the personal transits and your cogent take on them. May your collaboration with your anticipated remake empower you and bless you to fulfill your potential.

Lunesoleil: It is for me to thank you for your kind and generous words.

Bette Loreen: Thanks to you also for sharing your informed interpretation of your own transits. It is very gratifying that you find comfortable community with Planet Waves writers and commenters – we are grateful to have you among us.

  12. Thank-you so much for this, Len! I’m a Sagg with Saturn rising in late Cancer, Scorpio moon/Venus (raised in a family of earth/no water people – not easy). I’ve been looking forward to the water sign transits & the trines, & although Jupiter won’t cross my ascendant until Sept., I can feel the energy. Good stuff.
Your remark about Saturn – “…working with it is not difficult, but working against it is.” – is a treasure to me, as I’ve really struggled with old Saturn most of my life. He’s square my 5th house Jupiter, & for too long I alternated between blind leaps of faith (mostly without happy endings) & collapse into grim trudging. Saturn’s current transit of my moon, & the water trines, are bringing up a lot of memories that offer opportunities to heal old, old wounds. I seem to FINALLY be learning the “working with it (Saturn)” process, & your offering today is of great assistance.

As for the Uranus-Pluto squares, they so far occur in my 6th/10th houses. I have received an unexpected commission for a piece of public art, which I expect to have underway by the time Jupiter enters my first house. It will involve a lot of work, but I’m seeing that as “working with” both Saturn & the other energies prevalent in the sky this year.

Thanks to all at PW for the fine, insightful writing, & the caring spirit among participants. As the only astrologer for many miles, where I live, I find some precious common ground among you.

  13. Ahem, apparently that was then (1776) when Sirius was at 13 Cancer. Now, as of 2006 it is at 14 Cancer (per Wikipedia). Will check out Egypt’s latest birthchart (or should I say the last one) to see if it has any planets in that region of the zodiac.

  14. My OOB Cancer Mars is 14o and Saturn is right on top of my 4o Scorpio Moon right now. I do believe that this will be a remake of me entirely since my 13oTaurus Asc is trine my Cancer Mars.

When you said, “If you see ‘road apples’ on the road, you know a horse has been there. If you sense form, structure or definition in your life, you know Saturn has been there” that struck a chord. My Mars is slightly opp my 17o Cap Saturn. *Sensing* Saturn is how I handle the Old Devil the best.

I hope to spend some time this afternoon meditating on your post. Thanks.

  15. Thank you so much for this Len. I’m having a tough time navigating these waters right now – so will pay close attention to your precious words.

  16. Wow, Saturn direct at 1:11 on Monday? Sun square Uranus at 2:22 today? I’ve got one for you, the New Moon will conjunct Sirius the star that symbolized Egypt’s new year when it rose in the east; it was the most important star in the sky to ancient Egyptians. It was associated with Isis and at the time of the New Moon on Monday, transiting asteroid Isis is square Mercury. Stephanie Austin (Mt. Astrologer magazine, June/July 2013)says “Esoterically, Sirius is considered our spiritual sun, helping to direct the awakening of humanity.” These symbols aren’t horsing around are they Len? How ’bout THEM apples?

  17. My calling is to write. It is time to put all else aside to ride that horse. Wish me well as I turn and live.

  18. The time is interesting, a doorway. Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 1:11 that memories are meaningless – I happened on that while I was looking up 1:11.

Time to move on from the bloodletting, which is my take from all that’s been written here the last few days. Just time to move on, period. Stop dredging up the past.
