Open The Sky — Musing on Scorpionic Venus

Venus enters Scorpio shortly before 2:16 am EDT tomorrow. Immediately upon ingress, Venus will conjoin the main belt asteroid (orbiting the Sun between Mars and Jupiter) 30 Urania, on the threshold of fixed water. In context with the rest of the zodiac, the Venus-Urania in Scorpio configuration could very well serve to find you opening the sky in one way or another.

Astrology by Len Wallick

That may sound far-fetched, but a sky opened up can refer to a variety of things. It can mean a deluge. It may be coherence where previously there was disassociation. It might even serve to further reveal your purpose in this life.

What your potential to symbolically unzip the heavens might mean to you depends a lot on your personal astrology. It also depends on what you are willing to receive from a particular generation past.

Finally, it’s contingent on what you have aspiration (or lack thereof) to be while you yet live.

The potential for some sort of cloudburst is supported by an unprecedented grand water trine currently in progress, and in which Venus is about to become involved. The nature of any such downpour depends on whether, and how, you become involved.

Two things make our current grand water trine unprecedented. First, it is anchored by Neptune’s relatively recent (since 2011/12) return to where it rules — Pisces. Neptune in Pisces a powerful event that lasts for about a decade and a half, and takes place only every century and a half. The other factor is that you can go back for centuries upon centuries and never find Neptune in its Pisces realm linked with both Jupiter (currently cruising Cancer) and Saturn (now sailing Scorpio) in the other two water signs at the same time for any length of time.

With one exception, you have to go so far back to even remotely duplicate the current grand water trine configuration, the data becomes less than useful. The exception is 1966/67.

During 1966 and 1967, Neptune was slogging through Scorpio while Saturn was nearing the end of its Pisces voyage. Jupiter, in the meantime, was doing something unusual. That particular Jovian excursion in Cancer was broken up into two distinct segments separated by three months of Leo tenure. The result was an on-again, off-again water trine featuring a marginalized Neptune while Uranus and Pluto were concluding their colossal Virgo conjunction. Nevertheless, the sky did open up for a lot of people during that time.

For the people of North Vietnam, it was a disastrous deluge of bombing by the United States armed forces that accomplished nothing more than a monumental waste of life and resources. At the same time, however, some people in the United States were experiencing a long overdue revelation that their government was lying, and not just a little bit — lying a whole lot about both the purpose and price of a worthless war.

Also at the same time, mostly near where the North American continent met the water, people who had long been disassociated from each other and from their very being were beginning to cohere, both with each other and within themselves. These people, many of whom who have passed, or are now passing on, are passing their torch of unprecedented evolutionary and revolutionary progress to you.

Now, as Uranus and Pluto are reaching the first quadrature since their mid-sixties conjunction (something akin to a first quarter Moon, with us in the corner), the unbroken continuity of yet another and even more potent grand water trine holds a dual potential for you and the world. It is the potential of either a greater cohesion within humans and humanity, or the danger of unprecedented destruction (and what, in practical terms, can only be called perdition). Now, for your part, it is for you to take up the torch — or drop it.

At this crossroads, Venus enters the deep and murky, yet fecund, waters of Scorpio representing you. Representing you because Venus passes quickly, as all people must pass through life. Symbolizing you because of how Venus shines like no other planet, reflecting the human potential to shine like no other beings. Emblematic of you because of how its timing to enter Scorpio at this unprecedented time of both danger and opportunity, and to conjoin with 30 Urania (namesake of the mythical muse, the muse of the Cosmos itself) coincides with your being alive right now, entrusted to make a difference, or not.

You are not alone. An unprecedented number of people have assembled to join you here. We have assembled to confront a never-before seen power to deal misery and death with the will to live, love, and see a better day. We are assembling under skies which you are being trusted and empowered to participate in opening, one way or another, on our own. Please, let the light of Venus illuminate what you do, and let the muse of all that shines inspire and guide how you do it.

  1. The best of (British?!) luck to you, beleclaire. I’m sure this will lead you to somewhere lovely in the end. Write down in a notebook/diary the sort of place where you’d like to live, I did this years ago and it worked miracles for me. My thoughts are with you. ((()))

  2. Thank you be
We were posting at the same time so just read your comments now. They are helpful for me as this Equinox chart you describe is pretty much my solar return chart.

  3. Thank you Len for this beautiful piece, spot on as always!
I read it quickly yesterday and was thinking oh I wonder what will this mean to me. Today I got a call from the agents, who manage the house I rent, to say the landlord is putting the house on the market ( well we have a housing boom, sorry, that’s economic recovery, here in the UK ). So my little post divorce solitary world of the last 6 years is being ended. This is not easy for Cancer rising 4 Libra planets in the 4th I can tell you but Pluto/Uranis are both applying to my Moon so…here is one manifestation of that
    Yes *danger and opportunity* indeed.

Thank you for all the contributions to the discussion. I feel reading them that maybe I need to quit the big city and find my life on the land ( prog Asc just moved into Virgo conj natal Ceres )

May we all have a strong foundation when the winds of changes shift

  4. I’ve enjoyed reading the various comments here and wondered if some of you might be interested in hearing some ideas I’ve been getting from the Fall Equinox chart which will happen on September 22. Mostly I’ve been examining it for the way it affects Pres. Obama’s chart and the U.S. Sibly chart. Green-Star-gazer’s stats, however, gave me a fresh perspective with which to view the Equinox chart.

Right off the bat the chart has the two feminine planets – the only two for centuries – opposite each other, Moon at 11-12 Taurus and Venus at 13 Scorpio. They are accompanied by the nodes; the south conjunct the Moon and the north conjunct Venus, along with Saturn. Squaring them both is the first planet you would probably look for in a chart for a rape; Mars. He is located at 16 Leo and within orb of squaring both Venus and the Moon. I’ll come back to this chart in a moment, but there are a couple of other charts that might shed some light on what this Libra Equinox might be saying about rape through this T-square.

Transiting Pluto and transiting Uranus both made two entries into the signs they now occupy and I think of their 1st entry as symbolizing the situation(s) of the moment, while the 2nd entry symbolized how the situation(s) would be approached by the planet (whose chart it was) while in that sign. For Pluto’s 1st entry into Capricorn, Ceres was in the same degree where the Libra Equinox chart’s Moon is, 12 Taurus. Uranus’ 1st entry chart had Mercury also conjunct the Equinox Moon in Taurus. Using the Equinox Taurus Moon to guide my study (because generally, we think of rape as a crime committed against women and), because symbolically, the Moon means Women, here is some of what I found from it’s (Equinox Moon) match-up within the ingress/entry charts for Pluto and Uranus.

For Pluto’s task in Capricorn he is met with a situation where Ceres (conjunct the Equinox Moon in 11 days) in Taurus is in a grand (earth) trine with the Moon in Virgo and Jupiter in Capricorn. It would appear that Motherhood (Ceres) and Womanhood (Moon) were in a very balanced state (Jupiter) of being. However, Ceres was square Vesta, Chiron, Nessus and the Sun in Aquarius, and the Moon was square Juno in Sagittarius and Mars in Gemini, and this could only mean problems. On the “earth” (tangible) level of life, all was well, but Ceres was in the “fixed” (not easily changed) earth sign, and the Moon was in the mutable (transitioning) earth sign. Motherhood (Ceres in fixed Taurus) was not able to shift from it’s societal (Jupiter) position, (square Vesta = keep the home fires burning, or else. . ) but Women in general (Moon in mutable Virgo) were slipping out of traditional Societal roles, and being challenged by marital obligations (Juno = The Perfect Wife) and by the men in their lives (Mars = I’m the Boss and you’re not), so depending on a woman’s situation (what country she lived in, status, etc.), she was caught between a traditional world and a whole new world of opportunity.

Uranus’ first dip into Aries found Mercury in Taurus (conjunct the upcoming Equinox Moon) sextile Venus in Cancer forming a Yod (must adjust) to the Moon in Sagittarius. There’s an old saying about Sagittarians, “Don’t Fence Me In” and a Sagittarian Moon is no exception. Not only being at the uncomfortable point of a yod, but Moon was also opposite the Sun in Gemini. However, the newly arrived Uranus in Aries was within orb of a trine to her, and he could just be her ticket to freedom. How these two ambassadors from the Universe, Pluto and Uranus, will handle the situations they encountered in their first entrance into new signs will be unveiled during the next decade or so, but their second entrance charts will hold clues I’m sure. As they go through their 7 squares with one another, change will happen.

So when we arrive at the Fall Equinox in just a few days, look for signs of women’s roles changing which don’t sit well with men and/or society. George Zimmerman’s wife comes to mind. There is a water grand trine (Jupiter, Venus-Saturn, Chiron) and an earth grand trine (Pluto, Moon, Ceres) that make sextiles all the way around the zodiac, easing the winds of change that begin the Libra quarter of the year. Just to get you started, here in the U.S., the (Sibly) birth chart’s Uranus (shock, breakthroughs, revolution, the unexpected) at 8 Gemini will be the point man of a yod with the Equinox sextile between Pluto in Capricorn and Saturn+NN in Scorpio. As Green-Star-gazer’s Venus would say. . . Look at this; this is happening!

  5. Hey Len! Reading your article again apart unzipping the sky, I feel compelled to write that this is what literally happened to me yesterday. I should state that it has been warm here and we haven’t had any rain in weeks or storms in ages. So it was beautiful blue, sunny skies, dry as usual and midday I heard rumbles of thunder and went outside and closed up shed doors and there were flashes of lightening around and rain clouds blowing over me, but the really bizarre thing was, it was only over me! I know it sounds a bit egocentric, but it’s true. I looked around the borders of the clouds and over the road and outside the circle, it was all blue, sunny skies. I was telling it to rain on my place as it really needs it but unfortunately it could only squeeze out a couple of drops, while I was thinking if it rains here, my place will be the only 1 getting water. I have never witnessed such a micro storm. Sorry if this is totally off topic, but had to note the literal synchronicity, cheers!

  6. Karena, Thank you for affirming that call to return to the roots of the garden is the way. I have been involved with CSAs for almost a decade now, and for the current one I do a newsletter each week – recipes and information about the food – not just our organic shares each week, but also info on GMOs and Monsanto. It is rewarding, especially working with the two people who operate the CSA. So, it’s back to what I did in college in many ways, and back to what is important: food and community, taking care of each other. I hope the showers of the grand water trine will clear the Monsanto air for you. For me, it’s time to heed the call to go and be near Lake Huron.

Meanwhile, the forecast is for rain here in Michigan, in a week of wacky weather – 95 degrees yesterday, 90 degrees today, and by Saturday morning the prediction is for 46 degrees. Needless to say, the vegetables and the garden are confused, as are we humans. Do you think the vegetables know what we have done to exacerbate weird weather patterns?

Len – thank you for affirming that it isn’t too late, and reminding me to be more cognizant of non-linear thinking. I was being a bit facetious, but failed to insert an appropriate emoticon or equivalent thereof.

  7. Green-Star-gazer: Thank you for for your posting to enhance our awareness of what is at the root of the rape plague. May your pour initiative ripple through human consciousness and contribute to the end of the plague.

Hazel1: Thank you for supporting Strawberry.

Bette Loreen: Thank you for supporting Green-Star-gazer. And yes, you appear to be making very good use of a natal Saturn rising.

Kelly: Thank you for expanding on the Urania myth.

Jann: First off, it is not too late. Such a concept traps only linear thinkers. Thank you for the additional (and moving) insights into the torch-passers and their fragile legacy. Your praise is more than i deserve, but gratefully received.

Chief Niwots Son: Thank you for sharing your important interpretation of the precipitous communication you are receiving from the elemental. Timing may not be everything, but it’s a lot.

karena: Thank you for sharing the harvest of your season, and of this important time of your life. Thank you also for supporting Jann.

  8. Jann, your comments mirror my experience. I am part of the Uranus/Pluto generation and wow, I feel the same dismay. I feel like maybe this generation is a collection of late bloomers who are finding the beauty of living in technicolor after living in the bud form for so long. My petals are finally showing…as I reach for the sun and feel the breeze after so many years in my own secret garden. I have washed through so much this summer…a Chiron return is so dynamic, it opened the door for me to meet the “unprecedented number of people” dear Len describes.
We are all in this together…and I have not ever lost the vision forged in me before time. I’ve been living pieces of the vision…growing organic vegetables and fruits for family and neighbors, giving sanctuary to a few acres of trees….small everyday things that are important to me. I live in rural farm country and I get to feeling isolated out here where Monsanto seems to rule the roost. It is balm for the soul to read Len’s musings as I integrate this summer’s lessons. Fitting that it is harvest season…I’m digging more than blue potatoes this year and picking more than raspberries…I’m finding wholeness and connection beyond what I knew was possible. And with that sense of integration I can take up the torch and walk forward, working for a love of the Earth that is deep and strong and has always been within me.

  9. Open the Sky- we’ve had 2+ inches of rain since Monday afternoon, far beyond anything normal for this area, especially this time of year. No complaints, just sharing another interpretation.

  10. Thank you, Len, for the elaboration on the disassociated people and drawing the connections for us between “then” and “now” so we can get “there.” The influence and pull of the time of the Uranus-Pluto conjunction has been very strong for me in recent years, trying diligently to see the next phases of it in the current square. Your writing traces a route clearly and cleanly, freshly rinsed of the dust of the intervening years.

Of late I keep hearing those voices from the past, from that time of the Uranus-Pluto conjunction in Virgo. I hear the past calling to me asking what happened to those of my generation that wanted so very much to change the world, to make it better. I hear my past calling and asking me what happened to my values and ideals. I think we were conned into the rampant grab for materialism that followed, that greased skid of greed and power that was advertised without end (to this day) – as in “he who dies with the most stuff/toys wins.” Really? This morning it was reported that the income inequality is greater than it has been since the 1920s, before the Great Depression. Surely this should be a lesson received from the past, a spark of motivation for change?

Personally, I have taken these recent grinding transits of Uranus and Pluto opposing and squaring my natal Venus and Saturn, and transiting Jupiter squaring my natal Jupiter to re-examine those past ideals and lessons I left behind, and bring some of them to the present, to reintegrate them into my life, as I struggle to eliminate debt from my life, change careers, to return to a creative life, and to be of service in a beneficial and spiritual way. At age sixty plus, it isn’t too late, is it?

I am encouraged by the progression of astrology that offers the chance to find alternate paths, create other ways to live and be. Surely we can create a future with new and different ways that honor each other and the planet, with means of energy exchanges that aren’t capitalism gone wild?

Len, this is another marvelous tapestry from your creative, insightful and eloquent loom – weaving for us the colors of the past, present and future through astrology – truly a magic carpet. But before I take the ride, I will shower in the cloudburst of the grand water trine, cleansed and refreshed. Thank you, oh master weaver Wallick.

  11. The Muse Urania, in Greek mythology, is the muse of astronomy and a daughter of Zeus (Jupiter) and also a great granddaughter of Uranus.

Her association is with Universal Love

  12. Green-Star-gazer – Wow! Those rape stats are both astounding & heartbreaking. That’s the sort of uncomfortable revelation that can emerge when Scorpio energy is about. It’s also information we need to know, but I have no idea how the needed change can come about.

A man I knew years ago once told me that he could consider raping a woman, but that it didn’t have a lot to do with sex – rather with power, & his felt sense of lacking power. I don’t believe he would ever have acted upon that thought (he was a Pisces, mostly just terribly unhappy with his failures in romance). I appreciated his frankness – but made sure I was never alone in his company.

Len, perhaps I remember the 60’s perhaps more clearly than some of my peers at the time may do mostly because I avoided the drug thing, having always preferred reality, even if it hurt – & also because I seem to be gifted with a good memory – perhaps my Saturn rising? Still love hearing “White Rabbit” though.

  13. Strawberrylaughter: When I read that last part of your post I thought maybe you’re not seeing a doorway being held open, but a doorway you’re making yourself. Len’s idea of a growth spurt sounds absolutely right to me, growing into growth and adapting to a new body. I’ve thought that maybe when we experience or practice inner sight it is us becoming a kind of doorway, if only for a flash of vision here and there.

  14. A beautiful wake up call, thank you Len.

As a person with Venus in Scorpio it is indeed personal, yet Scorpio is often the realm of the unconscious collective and those Plutonian fields of transformation ripple easily any time the still, deep waters have a pebble dropped into them… or as you say the sky opens up.

Such a pebble-drop/sky opening event happened for me today: an article at the BBC website on an absolutely shocking study that has just been published: quote: ” It is the first multi-country study to examine how widespread violence against women is and the reasons behind it.”

The figures are staggering… again from the article:
Percentage of men ADMITTING to rape:

” Papua New Guinea Bougainville Island – 62%
    Indonesia Papua Province – 48.6%
    Indonesia urban – 26.2%
    China urban/rural – 22.2%
    Cambodia – 20.4%
    Indonesia rural – 19.5%
    Sri Lanka – 14.5%
    Bangladesh rural – 14.1%
    Bangladesh urban – 9.5%”

and “… Nearly three quarters of those who committed rape said they did so for reasons of “sexual entitlement”.

Report author Dr Emma Fulu said: ‘They believed they had the right to have sex with the woman regardless of consent.

‘The second most common motivation reported was to rape as a form of entertainment, so for fun or because they were bored.’

That was followed by using rape as a form of punishment or because the man was angry.

‘Perhaps surprisingly, the least common motivation was alcohol.’ said Dr Fulu. ”

If you want to read the article here is the link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-24021573

Perhaps Venus moving thru the last degree of Justice-seeking Libra and into sexually charged Scorpio is saying : Look at this. This is happening. Why are women in Asia at such risk and what can be done to change this pattern of socially sanctioned violence and abuse? What is it going to take to change this? Surely publishing this study is a first step. But for me, this was a Sky opening moment for me in that tears flow from my heart for so many victims who have to live with such disregard for basic human dignity. I have so much sadness for both sides of this dynamic. For the men who’s hearts have become so hardened that they cannot see the wrongness of this behaviour and for the women who surely must live in such fear… how could things get so distorted and how can it be healed?

Huge sadness in my heart… huge.

  15. Strawberry: Thank you for sharing your valuable experience. Grammar or not, you come across with genuine and useful information for anybody who is in a cycle of rapid growth. It is important to remember that growth is something to grow into. Just as with a young person who has a physical growth spurt and has to recover lost physical grace in a suddenly larger body, all of us will upon occasion experience a growth in emotional, mental, or spiritual proficiency, then have to endure a few stumbles as we learn how to handle that growth in a way that does not put us (or others) into either real or perceived danger.

be: Thank you for your question. The disassociated people i referred to were those who were part of the counter-cultural movements of the 1960’s, exploring alternatives. Those who opposed the Vietnam War (and war in general) as an alternative to “my country right or wrong”, those who explored alternative definitions of community (besides municipal subdivisions existing to form a tax base), those who explored alternative definitions of consciousness, those who explored alternative relationship models with people, and with other beings, and with life itself. For the most part, those alternative culture movements developed and flourished on the East and West coasts, but failed (as Hunter Thompson lamented with his high-water line metaphor at the end of “Fear and Loathing”) to make much progress inland past a certain point – possibly because Jupiter experienced a bifurcated and interrupted transit of Cancer during 1966/67. But that was then and this is now. Speaking of now, thank you so very much for another expert interpretation of a transit to the USA chart. Transiting Venus trine natal Venus is indeed auspicious. Finally, thank you for reminding us of the predominant, prevailing, and persistent “Neptunian aura” that surrounds “present world events” – that is how we have reason to be both hopeful and very careful regarding what we perceive and how we respond.

    Craig: You are very welcome.

Fe: Thank you for the bottom of my heart for making my day as few others can do. A word from you is a word from the Goddess.

Mia: As with Fe, so with you, and i will be listening in a few hours. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Bette Loreen: What a wonderful time to experience a Venus return! Please consider helping it to fill its potential by taking the initiative to form new relationships and refresh old ones. Thank you also for for your informed and cogent insight on the 1960’s (proving that you could both be there and remember it – with apologies to Grace Slick). Finally, thank you for affirming be’s informed cogent and informed insight into our present.

Danien: Speaking of insight, thank you for sharing how your personal transits can inform all of us by your outstanding example of a well-examined life.

nilou: You are very welcome. And yes, Jimi knew. As his recently deceased drummer (Mitch Mitchell) once put it, Jimi “was not a naive man.” Jimi had much to teach us that we can still afford to learn.

  16. …”beautiful, intense vibe” indeed, Daniel. Venus in Scorpio doesn’t do things by halves. Your three words there are most apt – I too am happy to have her come by.

  17. Thank-you, Len, for this lyrical & evocative discussion of Venus/Scorpio, & the context/history which surround it.

I’m glad to see this Venus transit, since I live with her in Scorpio in my birthchart ( in my 5th, along with the moon, in wide orb); we have had many interesting adventures, & misadventures, much romance, much creativity often fuelled by the romance. Now, in a more arid life passage, I think we’re sulking a bit, & I’m hoping that this Venus transit will perk me up, at least creatively. Of course, she’ll have to cross my moon, where Saturn’s currently hanging out, so – more past stuff, probably parental stuff to be healed.

Having turned 21 in 1966, I remember the idealism & sincere peace-making efforts of the era. My daughter was born in 1968, with the Uranus-Pluto conjunction, & is a loving peacemaker & astute observer of events in her world. I had friends who went south to march in the civil rights movement, & friends who (we thought) “sold out” by going into corporate or government positions. It was a lively, wonderful time to be coming of age. Unlike some, I didn’t make it “back to the land” then, but do my version of it now, usually in happiness & contentment. I still talk with people around me about peace, ecological issues, & the need to change the system which it seems WE serve, rather than it serving us. Not to mention what it’s doing to the planet & all her living beings.

I’m liking this summer’s water trines, too, & I do find some similarities in feel to the Neptune in Scorpio-Saturn in Pisces etc. trines of the 60’s. I’m a Sagg with Cancer rising & my water Moon/Venus, who grew up with Earth-sign parents & live in an Earth-sign village. Not a lot of feelings energy there. Hence, I welcome the water transits – they’re like fresh rain upon dry ground.

I agree, be, that current events have a Neptunian feel – sometimes I wonder, when I feel I’m being lied to, is this a deliberate lie, intended to persuade/mislead/cover up – or does that person truly believe what he/she “sees” inside whatever bubble constitutes his/her situation? I wonder.

  18. Open the sky it is Len.

What a beautiful article. Thank you.

For anyone interest, tonight at 8 Eastern Time, I will be having a conversation with Roxy Lopez on The Truth Denied. Your article, Len, dovetails nicely with some of the things Roxy and I want to cover. Of course, Spirit will be leading us so something else may just come out but I think there will be some overlap.

Please let me know if any of you tune in. I’d love to hear your thoughts!

    Mia

  19. What a lovely scene you bring us today Len. I dare say, you open the sky for we who enjoy your style of astrology. As the muse of astronomy and astrology, Urania is one of my favorite symbols, so combining her juncture with Venus and Neptune does indeed make this a rare moment not to be wasted.

I’m curious about the disassociated people near the shores of North America in the 60’s you refer to. Are these Native Americans? Can you tell us more?

This time is auspicious for the U.S. as it’s natal Venus will get a trine from transiting Venus also. The present world events have such a Neptunian aura one almost feels like they are living within an epic Hollywood film. Transiting Urania in Scorpio and trine Neptune in Pisces and soon conjunct Venus adds some glamour and romance to the otherwise Martian thriller-drama theme; what could we call it? As the World Becomes? Well, I’m certainly glad to be here, and glad you are here and glad that we are all coming together here to experience these things as a whole. Roll the credits!

  20. This is interesting. I was just meditating this morning on the way an interaction with Urania months ago frightened me into shutting down my inner sight. I hadn’t put it together until Hazel1’s mention of her recent bear encounter last night. Earlier in the year, I’d been working to develop my sight when, after a couple of profound and unsettling–to me–incidents, I decided I didn’t have the maturity or ability to put my ego aside enough to work with something so spiritually powerful. I’ve not channeled a single image since. And yet Urania is, in part, about not losing our intuitive sensibility as we work with the big picture.

This makes me sad, because while it’s completely reversible–no real damage done–it’s those small-seeming, day-to-day pains that we’re either too frightened or preoccupied to feel that we end up shutting out, and with them sometimes, a part of ourselves. (Wow, that’s some wretched grammar there, sorry.) But the sadness, while real, is a small price to pay for the way back into something so beautiful.

This is also interesting because of the way Venus & Urania will be on the midpoint of the trine between Vesta and my Jupiter tomorrow. That looks like a doorway being held open. I wonder if it’s the one I’ve been looking for.
