Easing The Way — Venus Enters Cancer

To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. That is to have succeeded.
— Ralph Waldo Emerson

Venus transitions from tropical Gemini to tropical Cancer at 10:06 am EDT tomorrow. By itself, and in context with current astrology, the ingress of Venus to Cancer indicates how you might want to participate in easing the way through passages that appear to be challenging all of us at once.

Astrology by Len Wallick

Astrology has seen several major passages this week. Based on the doctrine of “as above, so below,” many transitions in the sky implies many on Earth.

After after nearly a month of retrograding back into and then re-progressing out of Gemini, Mercury started this week of major passages by returning to Cancer as last Saturday transitioned into Sunday, leading the way for Venus.

Then, just two days ago, Mercury subsequently emerged out of the narrow (less than 10 degree) arc of the zodiac in which it had paced back and forth since May 22.

That emergence, plus Mercury once again being expressed through Cancer’s cardinal waters, symbolized a chance for your mind to pass out of prior confines. Such a passage, taken consciously, would in turn help compassion to arise from a necessarily emotional grounding to a rational basis for altruism.

Then, just yesterday, Jupiter concluded more than a year in Cancer and moved on to 12-plus months in Leo. In addition to being the centerpiece of this week’s astrological transitions, the beginning of Jupiter’s next sign tenure will implicitly serve to test and temper your altruism.

That’s because fiery, fixed Leo favors expressions of self-interest. Hence, even if generous Jupiter being expressed through Leo’s solar-ruled dominion is magnanimous, the next 12-plus months will entail walking the narrow path of enlightened self-interest lest you lose both your balance and your friends in the process of gaining (or attempting to gain) the world.

Fortunately, that’s where Venus comes in, easing the way. First, perhaps foremost among its many manifestations, Venus is associated with ease. Not laziness. Not sloth. Rather the value of ease which water itself employs when taking the path of least resistance.

That’s how Venus and water signs find compatibility. It’s also how Venus will express in Cancer to ease the way for Jupiter’s transition out of its cardinal water exaltation. Simultaneously, the altruistic values of love, truth and beauty that Venus also symbolizes will support Mercury’s elevation from merely mind to a manifestation of emotional intelligence.

Next, the first degree of Cancer is where everybody in the world simultaneously experiences a solstice when the Sun crosses that point. Like the first degree of its fellow cardinal signs (Aries, Libra and Capricorn) it is where your experience and your actions intersect with the experiences and actions of everybody else at once.

Fortunately, that’s where you come in. The planets can symbolize all day long and nothing will come of it unless you fulfill your role in the solar system as the means by which the sky manifests on Earth. Yes, you are the crucial factor in easing the way.

Now that you have read this far, you no longer have the excuse of not being aware of what this week’s astrology of transition signifies. It is for you either to ease the way for somebody or to graciously allow somebody else to ease the way for you. The ideal expression of the sky would have you doing both.

For only by being on both sides of compassion can you realize that it’s more than just a touchy-feely fairy tale. By the same token, it is only by being on both sides altruism that you can appreciate how it is more than an abstract value, but in fact a practical way to make life easier.

Finally, it is only by knowing that your self-interest is irrevocably tied to the best interests of other beings that you can become conscious of what enlightenment really means, and how easy simply living can really be. That’s pretty good payback for helping another life to breathe easier. That’s the success you are here to enjoy.

  1. be, Lizzy, junspace, Mia, and Lea: Thank you all so very much for (almost magically) extending on the theme to reach back into the past, explore the future and open our awareness to all that which (as a great poet once speculated) is “eternally present”. You are each and all a true blessing with your comments.

  2. 13. A lot of 13. My understanding that number is considered “woman’s number.’ by some. In Mayan understanding it has to do with taking the next step higher. There is a glimmer that an interesting/more balanced future is ours if we are determined to create it and enter into it in cooperation and harmony with other lucid dreamers. Thank you Len and be and all commenters for helping me “see” this morning what I would not see without the varied perspectives brought together and observed with you.

  3. Thank you for this beautiful article, Len.

As Jupiter moved into Leo the other morning, my natal Jupiter Pluto Regulus were all impacted and an additional partner confirmed that he would fund a project I have been working on for a very long time. Interestingly enough, the name of the road of the property we are getting is Ice Pond Road and I was reminded of the Grand Water Trine and the exhibition I curated entitled, “This Is Water” last September. Water is the only substance that can exist in three states: liquid, solid and gas. Last year, my ideas were flowing but were not yet solid and formed. This September I will be moving to Ice Pond Road. The confirming conference call happened two and a half hours after Jupiter moved into Leo. And practically hourly some other amazing synchronicity takes place. Clearly were are in a time of manifestation. My sense is the change we are looking for will come from the ground up. As Be says, it is time to dream big dreams. I have been asked to present my Adopt An Artist Program at a Peace conference in Jordan at the end of next year. Anything and everything is possible.

  4. Well, Len, this is lovely (as always), and prescient (as always), and oddly reassuring, as it looks like this Leo (with Venus in Cancer) is about to enter an extended temporary living situation that was supposedly about helping me out, but in reality is more about my helping out the rescuer. An altruistic moment indeed.

This, combined with your Cancer Moonshine horoscope (which was a little more perfect than I’d have liked)… I’m taking a deep breath, putting on a big smile, and kissing August goodbye.

The Emerson quote is perfect, and sweet, if not bittersweet.

Thanks for the heads up. 🙂

  5. Thank you for this beautiful piece. Len – and for the Ralph Waldo Emerson quote that is a perfect beginning to it. It’s something I’ve been feeling more and more strongly these days.
And thank you, be. These words lifted my spirits no end “…will also serve as a tonic for many individuals who have been pushed to their limits and thus filled with self-doubt. A big shot of Leo should renew their self-esteem.” Sure hope so, have been feeling really clobbered in this area for some time now.

  6. So true Len, thank you for noting how these changes all work together toward some harmonious (in this case) and/or breakthrough in our consciousness growth. I suspect that Jupiter in Leo – this time ’round – will also serve as a tonic for many individuals who have been pushed to their limits and thus filled with self-doubt. A big shot of Leo should renew their self-esteem.

Thanks too for the re-assurance that not everyone considers me any crazier than anyone else under the Aquarian influence. These are wobbly times for us, what with the push of Uranus to go beyond the defined boundaries, and Saturn’s dependable stability (a must for fixed signs like Aquarius) under constant threat of destruction. A look at the chart for their conjunction in October, 1988, has helped me to accept that it is for a noble purpose though, these wobbly times. The conjunction itself, at 27 Sagittarius 49, was and is conjunct the Galactic Center/Core, assuring us that it is the Universe who precipitates all the boat-rocking – all for the greater good.

Interestingly, the nodes at that time (north at 13 Pisces 13 and south at 13 Virgo 13), each joining a goddess symbol (Ceres at the north, Venus at the south), are t-squared by Pholus at 13 Gemini 48 retrograde, who is joined by Aphrodite at 15 Gemini 46 retrograde. That was back in 1988. If Aphrodite is another name for Venus, and if Venus made her last (famous) occultation of the Sun in 2012, then this Uranus-Saturn conjunction in 1988 was hearkening us to that event 24 years ahead of time!

This Fall, when transiting retrograde Chiron returns to 13+ Pisces, he will not only be trine the U.S. Sibly Sun again (as trans. Uranus squares the U.S. Sun) he will stimulate that 1988 T-square between the nodes and Pholus. Hmmm. . . . . .

. . . . In the U.S., voters will be going to the polls on November 4th just as the transiting Sun is about to reach 13 Scorpio, and trine trans. Chiron at 13+ Pisces who is trine the U.S. Sun at 13+ Cancer (who is being squared by transiting Uranus). Is some small thing (1988 Pholus) about to surprise us all again?

Maybe so, since on Election Day, 11/4/14, transiting fluid Mercury in Libra will quincunx transiting stable Saturn in Scorpio, making SOME kind of adjustment, and they both aspect the U.S. Sibly Mercury (in the Sibly 8th house of shared resources); Saturn by trine and Mercury by square. Then there is the return of transiting Nessus to the U.S. Sibly Moon in Aquarius (uh oh).

Considering that all of us U.S. critters are Aquariusly (Moon) influenced, and Saturn-Uranus rules Aquarius, AND,
    # at the time of the 1988 Saturn-Uranus conjunction, the Moon (the People) was conjunct the U.S. Sibly (natal) Pluto at 27+ Capricorn,
    # AND that the 1988 conjunction was and is conjunct the Universe’s homing signal, the GC,
    It behooves us to remember that. . . . . .
. . . . the 1988 chart for the conjunction of Uranus-Saturn featured Pholus at 13 Gemini which would be sextile Election Day Uranus (surprise!) at 13 Aries (and square Chiron at 13 Pisces) and that could result in some real crazy election results. The 1988 Gemini Pholus and the Election Day Aries Uranus, when combined, will be forming a yod with the transiting evening Sun (consciousness) in Scorpio at the apex on Election Day.

We are repeatedly reminded that Time (ruled by Saturn) is an illusion; something to help us mortals navigate through the fog of polarity that is our lot in this lifetime. What if astrology is the key to opening our eyes to the time-free world of the future we dream of, with no wars or suffering or lack of love? What if Jupiter in Leo is guiding us, through creative visions of the future to participate in the process of achieving that world by adding our votes toward goal? Time to dream big dreams.
