Bold, Not Reckless — Mars Ingress Sagittarius

Mars enters Sagittarius at 5:57 pm EDT (21:57 UT) Saturday for about six weeks to favor the bold — but not the reckless. To get an idea of what the distinction between bold and reckless might mean for you, think of the difference between a safe driver and an unsafe driver in heavy traffic.

Astrology by Len Wallick

Safe drivers gather awareness, signal their intent, and boldly commit without hesitation. Unsafe drivers often neglect awareness, fail to signal, and move recklessly.

Just as in heavy traffic, there are no guarantees of safety in your world. It’s a matter of participating, and boldly working probabilities so as to enhance the possibility of favorable outcome.

By the same token, it will not pay to go to the other extreme of recklessness. Energetic Mars in fiery, mutable Sagittarius (a sign ruled by expansive, amplifying Jupiter) just doesn’t add up to favor being timid, hiding out, holding out or sitting out, even if it feels like you should be doing just that when Mars enters Sagittarius this weekend.

The reason you may feel tempted to practice avoidance when (and after) Mars makes ingress to Sagittarius is that the Moon, according to many astrologers, will be ‘void of course’ (or just about to become so) at the time.

While the definition varies, it’s workable to consider the Moon void of course during the period of time after the Moon in its current zodiac sign has made its last major aspect (conjunction, sextile, square, trine or opposition) to a sign ruler (Sun, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune or Pluto) before entering the next sign.

When Mars enters Sagittarius this weekend, the Moon will be at 25+ Taurus, separating from an earth trine with the Sun at 21+ Virgo. It will make no more major aspects to sign rulers until it enters Gemini to oppose Mars about nine hours later.

During the period of time the Moon is void of course, many astrologers counsel initiating as little of significance as possible, lest your efforts have little (or at least uncertain) consequence. In addition, some would extend that advice to say that anything that does begin during a lunar void is bound to be insignificant in and of itself.

Yet, when you consider that the Martian tenure in Sagittarius (Sept. 13 to Oct. 26) will contain within it a Mercury retrograde (Oct. 4 to Oct. 25), which will in turn contain within it a pair of eclipses (Oct. 8 and Oct. 23), there is no way even the strongest proponent of Moon voids is going to be able to justify writing that whole time off.

Instead, it will be both realistic and practical to consider this year’s Martian traversal of Sagittarius to be both a busy time and a period of uncertainty — not unlike driving in heavy traffic. And what sane person would recommend that you snooze while doing that?

Obviously, the entrance of Mars into Sagittarius will not initiate a time to snooze, lest you lose. There is no way you will not be involved in what life has to offer over the next six weeks.

Even if you could avoid participating for so long, you wouldn’t want to. This is Mars in Sagittarius, not Scorpio. This is an adventure, so you may as well make your participation intentional and have a destination in mind.

Also, and just as obviously, you are not entering a time to be reckless. The actual events in your life that correlate with the metaphor of traffic will have you too busy to indulge either impulsiveness or unnecessary risks.

Rather, you are entering a time to decide where you want to go, be aware, signal your intent, make commitments and boldly follow through to enhance the probability of reasonable and safe progress in the unprecedented adventure that your life is becoming.

Yes, by the way; yes you can, and yes you will be glad you did.

  1. be: Thank you for bringing up the issue of how (as you put it) “zip” seems to be lacking. We will have to wait and see. My thinking i that it could be Mars getting its mojo back after the long Libra exile, or simply the anaretic effect of Mars in the late degrees of Scorpio. May you find relief from the weather and rest whenever possible. We love you!

aword: Thank you for the timely reminder from Carly Simon. As for (as you put it) “so many aspects”, please take them one at a time so as to appreciate each one and to keep them all going in the same constructive and productive direction.

pam: Thank you for the touching, resonant, and evocative piece from Yiruma, as well as also addressing the fatigue issue (in which you are clearly not alone). In addition to the remedies and supplements Lizzy was so kind to recommend, we will get an answer (or at least a parallax) after Mars enters Sagittarius (and also after Mars enters anaretic degrees once again after the last week of October gets underway). If the issue persists after Mars has moved on to Sagittarius, we will need to look at slower moving and longer lasting astrology for a suitable correlation.

Lizzy: Thank you for so generously supporting our sustained energies once again!

DivaCarla: Speaking of which, may the end of this meaningful and precious season see you sustaining your efforts towards successful completion and closure. We are grateful for and supportive of you here.

Holly: Thank you for the favor of bringing your spark here. As to your question of how Mars entering Sagittarius will play out for those with a Sagittarius ascendant – it appears to be an issue of whether those with Sagittarius rising will make wise use of energy or be used by energy.

Lunesoleil: Thank you so very much for mentioning that solar flare! Appropriate timing for such a phenomenon indeed. Once again we are grateful for how appropriate your comments always are.

  2. There are thousand way of presenting things like Mars in Sagittarius to speak in a way diverted from the solar storm that was announced Wednesday by Nasa. The did you feel Len?
March is associated with fire as the solar flare, it’s amazing you find as?
    good weekend to all

I was too fast at the equal of the activity of the Sun 🙂

    on weekend all 🙂

  4. This is the spark I have been waiting for. Sagittarius rules my 4th house. Any family gatherings would be quite lively I presume. My moon is at 22* of Sagittarius, active emotions from me. Sometime during his transit, he will trine natal Venus and sextile natal Mars in Libra.
I’m curious how this transit will play out on the national stage since the US has a Sagittarius ascendant. What with the plan against ISIS and company.

  5. Len, thank you. I need this Mars in Sagittarius report. This next 6 weeks there is nothing else to do but tie up loose ends, marshal and nurture my energy, and ship this project I’ve been incubating too long. Be, it’s clear you don’t live in Maine, where we cling to summer. In September, water I’d still warm so I swim every day!

  6. Feeling the same way Pam! Have you tried Bach Flower Remedies? Hornbeam, Olive, Elm are good, also rescue remedy. You could also try mineral and vitamin supplements – vitamin B, magnesium. I’m sure others have some good ideas too. Must run..!

  7. Any tips for fatigue Len? Don’t know about anyone else but I’m tiring these days in terms of maintaining fragile systems of all sorts/the long haul, and perception already overwide. Hoping every ‘climate’ becomes less intense every which way soonish. Or a way of bypassing the heavy traffic becomes evident, don’t feel up to it much!

A youngster passing through played this for us http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyTBCaCnYco

    Back to the day!

    xxxp

  8. Be,
LOL! I too hope Mars does not get stuck in traffic although in my life it could appear as though he is at the moment. Considering how Uranus has been in control of (conjunct) n.Moon/Eris in Aries, could Mars be taking advantage of some new momentum as he drives around the wheel trying to get back to home-ground?

  9. Thank you for your message and enthusiasm, Len!
“It will be coming around again (if you’re willing to play the game) and enjoy Carly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0A7jAVDPJU

Mars will always come around again, won’t he?

I have a few degrees to go; natal Saturn is at 24 Sagg (near conj my Vertex at 29)
Transiting Pholus will be waiting for a meet’n’greet with Mars as he approaches n.Saturn for landing.

Natal Pholus opposes natal Uranus (AC/Leo) and sits upon the DC in AQ (ruled by that guy on the other side of the teeter-totter.) (I only mention this because transiting Pholus is in the mix. Two years ago he was in a sextile with himself when Mars did his handshake with natal Saturn.

Ah, well there are so many aspects all over my chart it’s hard to keep track…

No doubt a place to hang my hat in Santa Cruz will magically appear by the time transiting Mars conjunctions natal Venus (AQ0 7th house/whole houses) in December — or will that Dec action be tied to the stellium of Pholus, Sun, Mercury, Ceres et al following along in Mars’ wake giving homage to nose-to-the-grindstone n.Saturn?

  10. Thanks Len, I just hope Mars will not get stuck in traffic, like it feels right now. Mars may co-rule Scorpio but if he had to choose his favorite, I bet he’d take Aries. I’d like to see some zip and see thing falling into place for a change, rather than all this effort and so little to show for it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s been better than when he was retrograde in Libra.

Maybe it’s not even Mars; maybe it’s the weather or too much water energy that’s had me slogging along at a snail’s pace. I’m just glad Vesta will conjunct Saturn this weekend and hope she will keep me focused enough to get through some of these draggy projects. I’m tired of summer!

  11. P. Sophia: Thank you for sharing your dream today – it seems very appropriate to the subject matter. Thank you also, and as always, for additionally sharing the depth and acuity of your inspiring awareness.

  12. Even though I feel I am very aware I am thankful for the reminder from you, and the sky. It is also interesting how the reckless has a way of slipping in through the subconscious anyway.

I awoke from a dream this morning where I was at the airport leaving on a 1:30 flight. I lost track of time apparently when I realized it was 1:15 and had better get to the gate ASAP. I couldn’t find it (of course, always how these dreams seem to go), so I stopped to ask for directions at a info kiosk, but there was a long que… I asked anyway getting his attention and learned I was in domestic when the international terminal was where I needed to be.

When I reached there I did not know how I would even have a chance of still making the flight in time. Just the same, I proceeded pressing forward to security where the attendant asked for my passport, which of course I did not have!

Disappointed, but now almost miraculously comical, yet it still seemed I might make it through tho..as he asked, “How many bags to declare?” And, of all the things, I looked down, around I realized mine was gone. I said, “How could it go missing? It was right here with me? He answered, “Particularly here, at this point, you have to keep an eye on it very carefully..”

  13. Nicolas: Thank you for your affirmation.

Anna: Ah, yes, those Freudian typos. They happen to me too. Thank you for sharing your method of interpreting a void-of-course Moon. i really love it.

aword: Mars about to transit your natal Saturn? Look back to the last time that happened (October/November 2012) and see what you can do to ramp up your proficiency for manifestation so as to raise the bar on last time. Thank you!

apples: That’s the spirit. Catch the wave and ride it to the beach! Thank you for sharing how your life correlates with the astrology.

Greg: Thank you for your well-earned insight. i agree with you. Please let me tell you something about myself. i have never owned a car. Not for one day. i have never been a licensed driver. Not for one day. Way back when i got in trouble at my high school for organizing activities on the very first Earth Day (the school principal believed Earth Day to be a communist plot to undermine the US economy) i made a vow, and have kept it for over 40 years. So, you see, we are of like mind. i simply used the safe-but-bold Vs. reckless driver example as a metaphor. Just a metaphor, Greg. Just to describe the astrology. Please, can you go with that? We really are on the same side. Please, may we be allies?

  14. I don’t think driving cars is reasonably any way no how unless they don’t have a tailpipe and even then how much coal is being burned to charge the battery, how many salmon dying slamming their bodies against the walls of a dam?

I’ve been taking refuge in the deep canyons of the local mountains that previous generations decided were wise to leave forested. The city’s pollution has been getting on my nerves. I ride a bike with cars. People say that they can’t ride bikes as transportation but the main reason they cite is the presence of cars. The cars are the problem, not the bikes. People ride bikes in ALASKA with fat knobby tires so you can do it. Ok, not everybody but we don’t need all these cars everywhere. I’m not everyone, but I am someone who used to live the suburban life with a car, a girlfriend and a job…never a dog but a few cats. The idea that I wasn’t strong enough to rely on my muscles to get me from here to there was primarily based on ignorance and not a correct assessment of my abilities. I dare say there are millions of people driving cars every day that would be healthy enough to do it by bike if they just started riding a bike and most importantly stop driving cars.

I’ll leave this electric soap box now. It applies tho cause if I travel it will be by bike. If I stay here I’ll move to my next base camp by bike. The main danger to my safety is cars. But I won’t stop using sensible transportation just because the majority drives a car. There’s no more pretending that global warming is a hoax. It’s happening and driving cars is one of the worst things you can do. I’m not shaming you. It’s a simple fact that cars are filthy and a key factor in the present crisis.

  15. ive got natal sun, moon, mercury, and mars in Sagittarius. Ive been living in Germany the last 10 months on a 1 year travel/work visa, and the whole time have been writing songs and working out the technicalities of recording my first album. I have just over 6 weeks left in Germany and this mars transit is like the culmination/kick in the ass to finally get this thing done! Perfect timing!

  16. “Reasonable and safe progress”. I like the sound of that. Well, natal Saturn in Sagg does anyway. Jupiter is still hankering for speedy (reckless?) progress and lots of it, but right now, that Martian energy is not his to rule.
Thanks, Len. Helpful and lyrical as always.

  17. Excellent and just want I needed to “hear”. My opinion of the Moon void of course is not of the usual. I consider the message of the chart whether event or individual when Moon void of course as to taking aim or action. For me, the Moon void of course can be a way to go via the back door, slip in, another avenue when taking aim for something. Of course, it depends what matters in what that aim or action entails. Energy intention can go well with a Moon void of course. Just something I have played with to see what unfolds. Thank you, Len, for the bold expression… Yes, you can. 🙂
