Venus, Jupiter and the Moon: ‘Givingness’ vs. ‘Keepingness’

There’s a good chance that your inner landscape is a mixed bag now that you’ve had a chance to absorb the results of Tuesday’s election in the U.S., and the current astrology presents a similar theme. There appears to be an overarching tone, but with a hiccup. Navigating the hiccup may come down to whether you stay focused on higher truths and the greater good, or allow yourself to be seduced by pride, finger-pointing and a desire to keep for yourself rather than share the love (and more tangible resources).

Simplified chart section showing Venus (blue female symbol) trine Jupiter (orange ‘4’). The Moon squares Jupiter and Juno (purple asterisk, in Sagittarius) form Virgo.

Tomorrow Venus in Libra forms a trine to Jupiter in Gemini. It’s exact just before 2:26 am EST Friday, but is in effect now. In general, Venus trine Jupiter is a very lucky, fortunate aspect marked by a high degree of “givingness,” as Isabel Hickey puts it. I think we can translate that to ‘generosity,’ and it plays out in financial affairs, as well as an active, awake soul force and strong devotion or faith.

With Libra and Gemini involved, this sounds like a sense of easy, beneficial flow in matters of post-election justice, as well as in personal relationships. Libra brings in universal justice and balance (as we have seen enacted with votes on same-sex marriage, and the defeat of candidates who would restrict access to women’s health services).

Gemini, the sign of the twin, reminds us that those on ‘the other side of the aisle’ may not be thrilled, may have dangerous agendas, but ultimately represent the flip side to our own coins. Awake to that insight, we have the opportunity to offer space even as we work for truly just solutions moving forward.

Granted, the ‘opposition’ may not feel like playing on higher ground. No one said putting this energy to work would be easy in the wider world, even if it makes for an easeful thought/feeling experiment within each of us. And in truth, there’s a chance you may catch and snag on a corner of your own psyche, as well. Just as Venus and Jupiter sync up in their trine, the Virgo Moon squares Jupiter exactly. Virgo Moons can be tricky: prone to being analytical and critical, wanting to serve but lacking a full understanding of the other’s needs. (That said, Virgo Moons, especially when waning as this one is, are awesome for tidying and reorganizing home and work spaces; the key is giving the energy the right job to do.)

The Virgo Moon square Jupiter in Gemini introduces conflicts to the inner landscape between false pride and feelings, conceit and emotions. It may bring difficulties though an urge toward “keepingness” (as Hickey puts it) — the exact opposite of “givingness.” This may manifest in a desire not to share what you have on many levels: your sense of victory; your hard-earned rest after being an activist on election issues; your status quo, because it is safe and comfortable; the energy it will take to stay engaged post-voting.

The Moon is making a semi-sextile to Venus (one sign away), putting the emphasis is on financial resources. You may feel like you have nothing left to give at this point — or that you shouldn’t have to, because it is ‘someone else’s turn’. With a second, colder storm hitting the northeastern U.S., this kind of attitude is something to be on alert for internally. Luckily, Moon aspects move along quickly. The trine between Venus and Jupiter should make “givingness” the prevailing vibe if you keep the focus on openness.

All the while, the asteroid Juno is hanging out in Sagittarius, just past an exact opposition to Jupiter (and building a sextile to Venus — easy flow that asks for your engagement to be useful). In the opposition, the diffuse, expansive spiritual/religious influence of Jupiter in Gemini is playing off a complementary energy, which gives it some focus as we bounce between the two.

Juno is emphasizing the sense of social justice in our relationships — and, perhaps, in our relationship to the greater good. In Sagittarius, this is taking a higher, cosmic octave. After all that went on Tuesday, it’s just in the nick of time. If we can commit to that ideal, Venus in Libra will have something worth receiving in those scales to balance.

  1. Yes Pam, I agree. I will continue to plant seeds. Because who knows what or when something good will grow. Only if we stop will we know for sure that we contributed nothing.

  2. hcohen it is continuing down your path regardless. Who you are has an effect – better that you put your efforts out there even if it seems to have no effect (who knows 20 years down the line what may have grown from the seeds you sow now). Surely there are good things that passed you by at the time that in fact your subconscious held onto and at need they came to the surface – even decades later. Things like that.

  3. I have to admit, I read today’s article as “Grooviness vs Keepingness” 😉 I have a one track mind I think.

    Great article Amanda, amazing points.

  4. Well said Amada! A beautifully encouraging message well received. I am feeling at peace today, for this moment and tuning into “Saggitarius taking a higher, cosmic octave”. Thank you for the uplifting message. It is such a pleasure to watch your growth as you find your own beautiful voice.

After a brief discussion with friends on Facebook today, I found myself in a let down today. I fear that though the election was successful, laying a path that could allow us to do some good in this world for equality and justice and , well, a safe environment for all who walk this Earth, regardless of sex, the reality may be that nothing will change.

We, who care, need to commit to the ideal you state above. But what about those who don’t commit or, worse yet, undermine. I am a big believer in the need to let go of what you can’t control because if you hold onto that you will only be dragged into rough terrain and it might be painful or dangerous to your soul. But … still … how do we share this ideal with those who have none? I know there is no answer, no definitive answer, but … is wanting, wishing, and even acting upon an ideal enough to change this world in the face of such adversity?

I hope so. I truly do.

  6. Amanda: Thank you for a beautiful proposal from the Cosmos, proposing that we move in the appropriate direction from the fatigue and advocacy of one human season of election to another human season of thanks and giving. That’s just what we need to hear, talk about and live through. Also really liked your concept of catching and snagging on the corner of one’s own personality – that could indeed cause a run in the personality.
