Jupiter, Over the Rainbow

My personal favorite sign from the New Paltz Pride Parade -- what happens over the rainbow stays over the rainbow. Photo by Eric, from Sunday, June 5.

Today is June 6, 2011. Jupiter is now in Taurus (as of Saturday), and if you ask me that’s good news. I am neither the chipper nor the glum kind of astrologer, but to my thinking this is a happy occasion. It’s partly that Jupiter is in a Venus-ruled sign and will be for a year. It’s partly that Jupiter is in an earth sign, which grants some stability to a planet that can (at times) act like an old windbag. And it’s partly due to the aspects that Jupiter is making for the first part of its journey — sextiles to both Neptune and Chiron (and a trine to Pluto, which I’ll get to another day). For the year that it’s in a sign, Jupiter can provide a backdrop of style and feeling. The blend of the grounded values of Taurus and the wisdom-quest of Jupiter is a blend we need now.

Let’s focus on the sextiles for today — 60-degree or two-sign aspects that are about harmony and integration. Jupiter to Neptune is exact Wednesday and therefore applying right now. Applying aspects are like a wave that’s building as opposed to one that has already crested, though both can be equally influential. For some information about this, I’m going to refer to my favorite basic astrology book — Astrology: A Cosmic Science by Isabel Hickey. If you’re going to study an astrology cookbook, this is the one. Basically, what Ms. Isabel says about this aspect in an individual natal chart is that it balances outer judgments and intuition. The mind is in harmony with the psychic nature. Spiritual leanings are strong, and more likely to be realistic rather than fundamentalist.

The most recent Jupiter-Neptune aspect we experienced was a series of conjunctions in 2009 (in Aquarius that included a conjunction to Chiron — the famous triple conjunction). Now, Jupiter is again aspecting both Chiron and Neptune, but the sextile is a little more like going for a walk in the afternoon Sun than getting scorched in the mid-day Sun. Taurus-Pisces is a lot more grounded than three planets in Aquarius.

While this is happening, Jupiter is working its way into a sextile with Chiron. This is an aspect that grants the power of manifestation. Jupiter and Chiron work exceptionally well together, pretty much in any aspect. Even the square and opposition are useful (if intense), but the sextile has gentle leverage between the potential of Jupiter and the grounding and focusing power of Chiron. That one is going to last a while. The three exact contacts are July 2 (nice and strong for the July 1 eclipse), Dec. 6 and Feb 14. So this is your first notice to tap into the manifesting power of Jupiter sextile Chiron and be aware of what you want to create in your life. I would point out that Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune are all distinctly spiritual influences. By that, I mean they address the nonphysical realms, though Chiron in contact with Pisces (and Taurus, by extension to Jupiter) brings the connection right into the physical world. When you think of Chiron using the ‘rainbow bridge’ metaphor given to us by Barbara Hand Clow, think of Chiron dancing around with Jupiter and Neptune. That really is the image. Besides all of which, we have been through more of our share of rough aspects lately. These are friendly, useful and gentle. Make the most of them, and of this time.

  2. Thank you, Eric, for your image of bringing the connection into the physical world. That’s beautiful.

  3. Thank you for the positive message this morning! Sitting at the sanctuary this morning,
Listening to an orchestra of birds, singing their jovial sonnet of the day….fits right in with
    Your message!

  4. come on, Little Prince, let’s just step outa time…..we could hold hands…..?
    just sayin’.

rainbows are auspicious!! every time I see one, I know I’m on the right Path..

off to check the stars before bed—see ya!

    peace.

  5. You said “Now, Chiron is again aspecting both Chiron and Neptune” so I’m thinking this is a goof up and blaming the play of Neptune on Jupiter’s philosophy talents.

I see this dancing rainbow as the energy swirling around the paints, brushes and canvas, so to speak, and beckoning the Artist to join them in the dance to create something bigger than the parts.

Deep Thought of the day done. Off to bed,

    Dianae
